MADQuantum-CM Wins Best Public Project Award

The D+I Innovation Awards 2023 honored the MADQuantum-CM program with the Best Public Project Supporting Digitalization award. Specifically, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), the Spanish partner in the EuroQCI initiative, coordinates this program.

MADQuantum-CM earned this recognition for its ambitious goal to create a quantum cybersecurity network that will integrate the Madrid metropolitan area into the upcoming European quantum communications network (EuroQCI). Moreover, the development of the program is overseen by the national Complementary Plan for Quantum Communications.

Carme Artigas, Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, and Pedro J. Ramírez, El Español´s Director, opened the award ceremony. Ana Ramírez de Molina, Vice-counselor of Universities, Research and Science of the Community of Madrid, and Laura Ortiz, representing the UPM and a member of the Information and Quantum Computing Research Group, collected the award.

Vicente Martin, coordinator of the MADQuantum-CM programme and Professor at the UPM, highlights: “At Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the jury’s recognition of the project’s relevance brings us great happiness. Moreover, of all the Quantum Communications projects within the national Complementary Plans, this one has the most partners. Consequently, it allows us to address a wide range of topics, from cybersecurity to ultra-precise measurements. In addition, this project opens its doors to the industry, and through this collaboration, we will promote the creation of an industrial ecosystem around quantum communications in Madrid. As a result, we will reach a greater number of people with scientific and technological advances.”
