Quantum Communications Network

The Instituto de Telecomunicações in Aveiro and the consortium PTQCI are hosting a workshop on quantum communication networks from February 26 to 27. The event aims to unite key players in quantum technologies to brainstorm and share ideas on implementing the future quantum communications network nationally and across Europe. Firstly, the presentations will delve into the PTQCI project. Subsequently, they will expand to encompass other international quantum networks in Spain, Austria, and the USA. Ultimately, the goal is to foster collaboration and engagement among government, industry, and academia.

The PTQCI consortium aims to develop and deploy quantum communications infrastructure in Portugal. Specifically, this initiative is part of the broader EuroQCI – European Quantum Communications Network – which seeks to establish quantum-secure communications throughout Europe in the coming years. Furthermore, the PTQCI project represents a significant step towards realizing this ambitious goal. In essence, by focusing on the development and implementation of quantum communication technologies, the consortium is not only contributing to Portugal’s technological advancement but also playing a crucial role in the larger European effort to create a secure and resilient quantum communication network.

The consortium encompasses a wide range of stakeholders in the realm of telecommunications and technology. Prominent universities and research centers such as Instituto de Telecomunicações, ISEL, and IST contribute their academic and scientific expertise. Additionally, esteemed national bodies including GNS, IPQ, and FCCN provide their insights and resources. The consortium also benefits from the involvement of innovative industrial entities like Deimos, Adyta, Omnidea, and Warpcom, who bring practical experience and technological advancements. Moreover, major telecommunications companies like IP Telecom and Altice Labs play a crucial role in driving innovation and ensuring the relevance of the consortium’s endeavors.
